Description
Sharp's at Waterford Farm is a 530 acre working farm. We offer several outdoor educational programs mid April through mid August for camps located around the Maryland area.
Our most popular summer camp program is "Ponds, Puddles and Creeks". Children must wear old tennis shoes or water shoes as we go into the Cattail Creek to catch a variety of critters that live in the creek. After catching, we gather to discuss where they live in the creek, who they dine on, what is their life cycle,and much more. We release the critters and take the hayride back to the barnyard to feed the farm animals. Great way to keep cool, yet still learn new things! $7.50/person
"Birdhouse Gourds" is another program, where everyone makes a birdhouse using a gourd that was grown and dried on the farm. Feeding the animals and hayride are also included. $8.50/person
"Nature Knowledge" takes everyone along the 1/2 mile trail that begins at the Cattail Creek.Wildlife, track ID, life cycles of plants and animals, erosion, and more is included.$7.50/person
Wonderful World of Worms is a great introduction to children on the importance of composting and how worms aid in that process. After a "barn class" discussing compost, we actually demonstrate and have the children go through the actual steps to building a compost pile. All children are asked to bring a baggie of old food scraps. Everyone takes home a plant! $7.50/person
We have a picnic site that is next to 1 of 3 ponds so we encourage you to stay for the entire day. Bring some field games and make a day of it!
